Akino Sakaoka
Akino Sakaoka has worked on various types projects
throughout her career. She began as a technical architect at Baltimore Design
Group in 1996 after graduating from the Interior Design Program at the Fashion
Institute of Technology. During four years with Baltimore,
she undertook design projects for multi-million dollar mansions in Long Island
and New York City.
In 2000 and 2001, while working for GHK Associates, she was responsible for
managing renovation for the Department of Economic and Social Affairs
at the United Nations, the UN's largest department.
She also worked independently in 2003 and 2004 with Crown Road, Inc., a
developer in Brooklyn, New York, creating contract documents for
multiple residential projects.
In 2004, she began her studies in the Construction Management Graduate Program
at New York University. Her concentration was
Construction Executive Management.
Her studies included construction accounting and finance; negotiation
and dispute resolution; real estate and construction laws; labor relations;
Microsoft Project and Suretrack scheduling; estimating; real estate development
process; safety management; project management and construction organization
management. After graduating from the program in 2006, she joined Butler Rogers
Baskett, where she managed a number of commercial design projects
for two and half years.
In January 2009, she earned a LEED accreditation. She has also been working as a tutor at
the Fashion Institute of Technology since 2009,
teaching students Auto CAD; perspective drawing; architectural working drawing
and rendering.
Ms. Sakaoka is also active outside of her professional life. She conducts
monthly meetings for The New York City Japanese Language Meetup as the
organizer since 2003.
